Crucified, Dead and Buried
Mark presents us with witnesses to the fact that Jesus died. The Roman centurion had never seen anyone die like this before, with victory and peace. The second witnesses are a group of women. Women’s evidence was not admissable in court; Mark wouldn’t have made them the main witnesses if he were trying to invent a credible gospel. Jesus really died, which means sin really matters. The third witness is Joseph of Arimathea. As a member of the Sanhedrin, burying Jesus would have made him despised. He does this because he loves Jesus. Do people know that we are followers of Jesus?
