External, Internal, Tradition, Command
Bible Text: Mark 7:1-8 | Preacher: James Allan | Series: Mark | The Pharisees’ emphasis was on external purity. There are two warnings in this passage: of elevating the external over the internal, and tradition over what God has commanded in His word. We have no right to impose commandments on men that God has not commanded. However, if we prioritise the internal over the external, we will see all the things that defile us. Our only hope is in Jesus’ love.
