Joseph does the right thing, but it lands him in prison. Is it worth doing the right thing? All who live Godly in Christ will be persecuted and we should not be surprised about this. Jesus said to rejoice and be glad. We can rejoice because our trials draw us into a deeper relationship with Him. Instead of asking why bad things are happening when we have done good, perhaps we should ask why more bad things are not happening when we have done so much bad. God is still bearing with us. Through suffering, He is at work in His people, shaping and moulding us.
