Pergamum was the seat of Roman government. Jesus calls it the throne of Satan, yet there was a church there. There had already been a martyrdom, and they had been faithful in persecution. However, some were following false teaching that they did not need to suffer. Jesus calls them to repent and promises three things to those who persevere.
