Joab puts the peace of Israel in jeopardy by murdering Abner because of his need for revenge. David is a type of Christ and pursues peace. We need to leave vengeance to the Lord. He is righteous and every sin will be punished, either in the wrongdoer, or in Christ. David could not have loved Abner much but organises a state funeral for him, for the sake of the peace of Israel. Do we prize the unity of the church?
