Jesus Christ has two distinct natures – both God and man – in one person. The council of Ephesus in 431 refuted the teaching of Nestorius who taught that Jesus is two distinct persons. If Jesus was not fully God when He died on the cross then He did nothing to save us from our sin. We need one who is infinitely clean to stand in our place.
