Ponder Anew What the Almighty Can Do
We can learn a lesson from each character. Elkanah is a man of pedigree and means to have two wives. This is descriptive, not prescriptive and is no advert for polygamy; it's an unhappy household. We should not be like Peninnah; our tongues can be used to damage others. We might do well to follow Elkanah's example. He doesn't exclude Hannah from the feast but he goes to comfort her. When we don't know how to help someone we can tell them we love them. Hannah's response was to weep and not eat but God delights to work when things seem most hopeless. Our trial might bring blessing to many.
