If we have been brought forth by the word we will exhibit certain behaviour. James gives three examples of behaviours expected and expounds on them throughout the epistle: Controlling the tongue (left to itself, the tongue will do great damage); looking after widows and orphans (we were the poorest people in God's sight but He lavished His glory on us); and keeping unstained from the world.
