With Abner dead, Ishbosheth is sorrowful that he will no longer be king. Is our biggest sorrow that people don’t admire us? Living for our own glory is exhausting but the gospel is liberating. Ishbosheth is killed by two men but David is unimpressed – it’ss the Lord who redeemed him out of every adversity – and has them put to death as well. Though Christians are to be merciful people, there is a right longing for justice to be done and for the end of the suffering of God’s people. That day will come.
