Jesus chose to remain silent, which took astonishing strength, in order to be a willing sacrifice. Pilate’s wife speaks truth about Jesus, and Pilate performs an almost religious cleansing, but he hands over Jesus whose blood alone could cleanse his guilt. Barabbas is the guilty one but is released while Jesus is crucified, dying in his place as a saving substitute.
