Absalom sets himself up to steal the hearts of the ordinary people and overthrow David as king. David flees Jerusalem, fulfilling Nathan’s prophecy of judgement upon David. However, even in this we see the love of God; He does not want our prosperity but our hearts. David commits himself to the Lord’s will. Are we content with whatever the Lord brings our way? David crosses the Kidron and ascends the Mount of Olives, just as Christ would do. David crosses bearing house own sins, but Christ bearing the sins of others.
