Belshazzar had been greatly privileged to see the dramatic conversion of Nebuchadnezzar, yet committed blasphemy, worshipping powerless gods. The writing means his days are numbered, as are ours. He had been weighed and found wanting. How can any of us measure up against the standard of God’s glory? Our only comfort is found in another three words, spoken by Christ on the cross: “It is finished”.
